Conclusions of the study visits

As reported in the first newsletter of the project, a series of study visits was planned for the project team to learn more about the situation in the seven project cluster territories. It had started in April, with visits to the Bulgarian and Romanian clusters.

Following these first study visits, the project partners went to France in June, discovering La Roche-sur-Yon, the territory of the French partner Trivalis. This visit gave a detailed overview of the situation in the Vendée department and included visits to the moulded fibre production plant Huhtamaki La Rochelle, to a sorting plant, to a recycling yard and to bring bank containers for selective collection of graphic paper for deinking.

Then, in July, the project partners visited Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, UK. The study visit included an informative session with representatives from the municipality, the Welsh government and local experts from WRAP and Recyclate, as well as a visit to the new door-to-door collection system, to the sorting facility and to a recycling yard.

Just one week later, some project partners joined the study visit to Szczecin, Poland. The municipality organised an informative program, including a meeting with the deputy mayor. Despite heavy rain the IMPACTPapeRec team visited several recycling yards, the collection of recyclables in the residential area, and the Remondis sorting plant.
