Current collection models in cities under study

This report is the first deliverable of the work package whose aim is to validate the best practice approaches and methods for enhancing the separate collection of paper and board already indentified earlier in the project. This is accomplished on the basis of seven defined clusters in five countries. Clusters 1-5 are situated in France, Romania and Bulgaria and are represented by partners of the project consortium. Clusters 6 and 7, in United Kingdom (Wales) and Poland, were incorporated into the project within the scope of the External Support Committee (ESC).

The objective of this report is to give an account of the current situation in the various clusters. Essential elements are the schematic presentation of the domestic waste and recyclables management system, thereby allowing for a systematic tracing of the streams. At the same time, a descriptive representation with symbols was chosen in order to minimise language barriers. The symbols used are explained in chapter 3 (Terms and definitions). Each scheme is supplemented for each cluster by a photo documentation of the locations visited. Key system parameters – so far as are known – are set out in tabular form.

Methodology for IMPACTPapeRec best practice and working instructions

This deliverable is a synthesis of the methodology used in the project to identify and collect information about good practices of Paper for Recycling collection, and to further analyse and evaluate them. Based on the experience gathered with this task of the project, the report also provides “working instructions” useful to anyone who is interested in conducting the same process of identification and assessment of the performance of one or several territories in terms of Paper for Recycling management.

The overall objective was to  analyse  and  evaluate  good practices of PfR collection that will feed the content of the Best Practice Handbook. You can read more details about the deliverable here.

Innovation Node Working Group activity interim report

The project work package 4 entitled “Innovation Node” is intended to create an innovative atmosphere within the project by supporting the innovation process within IMPACTPapeRec. There are three main objectives:

  1. To provide key tools and methods (innovation supporting activities)
  2. To identify innovation needs and new ideas within the innovation node working groups (INWG)
  3. To boost collaboration with other projects and initiatives

This report covers the first year of the project from February 2016 till January 2017. The first part (chapter 2) gives a general introduction to the innovation process and creative problem-solving. It also includes a description of the applied tools and methods. The second part (chapter 3) describes the IMPACTPapeRec interactive working sessions and the first results from the innovation node working groups (INWG).

Innovative models and best practices to be implemented in cities under study

The main objective of this report is a detailed description of the problem analysis and its application to the cluster territories. It is the second in a series of three reporting on cluster analysis results (read the first one here).

It includes the causes for negative performance on separate paper and board collection, the challenges addressing these causes, relevant good practices as well as an evaluation of good practice implementation per cluster, namely for the Dupnitsa (Bulgaria), Mezdra (Bulgaria), Sfantu Gheorghe (Romania), Mihai Viteazu (Romania), Vendée (France), Merthyr Tydfil (United Kingdom), Szczecin (Poland) and Poland clusters.

You can see a schematic figure of the approach used here.
